Operation Santa

Santas gather together to help children in need

Since 1934, the Pasadena Jaycees (Chamber of Commerce Junior Chapter) have been collecting letters to Santa Claus written by underprivileged children in Pasadena and surrounding areas.   Those letters are read, toy drives are initiated by donations , funds are raised, houses are mapped out, and on Christmas Eve  Santa and Mrs. Claus visit the homes of these children with gifts in hand. The Pasadena Jaycees reach out to 3500 children.  Last year over 1,500 letters were read and processed.  120 volunteers unselfishly gave their time on Christmas Eve to dress up as Santa, Mrs. Claus and Santa’s Helpers.  They delivered between 5000 – 6000 toys.  They are looking for volunteers on the 24th that would want to participate in the distribution of these gifts or have time to sort the gifts that day.  The more, the merrier.

Santa and Santa helpers do last minute prep before they hand out gifts to needy children.

Also, while I was writing this blog post I was  reminded by my friend Cassie Alfafara that the Tree Lighting Ceremony at One Colorado also signals the official start of the Pasadena Jaycees Operation Santa.

It really amazes me how many  thousands of children lives that they have touched.  Funds are raised, toy drives are initiated, letters to Santa are collected and read, and on Christmas Eve they send Santa and Mrs. Claus to the home of each local child who has written a letter to Santa.

Letters to Santa that the Pasadena Jaycees will read and then get toys out to those letter writers.

If you would like to support this worthy cause with you donations, your helping reading letters, or being a part of this wonderful program by being a Santa please contact the Pasadena Jaycees @ opsantapasadena@gmail.com
